Story of my dog
Bobby’s mommy is a street dog, a dog without a master. Don’t know who made her pregnant, one day she just came to the house opposite my former rented house to deliver her babies. I think there were 7 of them and I took the brown one home 2 weeks later before my neighbor chased them out. My family always have a dog but personally I never take care of it. So it was just an impulsive action when I took Bobby home.
He cried a lot. The most annoying one was if he cried in the middle of the night. And it became so sad if the mommy passed by our house, heard the cried then barked all night long. But if I let go the puppy, the mommy didn’t want him anymore. One day, Bobby got away in the middle of the night, in a heavy rain and I was alone at home. I heard him cried outside the fence trying to find a way in. Then I let him in without forgetting to scold the tiny puppy all the way in and still scolding inside the house whilst I dried him up. Another day he kept crying and didn’t want to sleep. I was chatting with a friend who then suggested me to put a clock under a towel and let him sleep on it so the puppy would think that it was his mommy’s heartbeat. In desperate, I just tried it with laughter thinking would it be success or am I just a stupid idiot fellow who don’t know anything about having a pet but dumb enough to have one.
Few months ago I finally watched Marley and Me with my hubby and my dad after the kids all asleep. My hubby recommended that movie to me after he watched it on board ship. He said it was the best dog movie that he ever watched. He never like dog movies nor any other romantic drama movies (which I like). He likes war, science fictions, super heroes kind of movies, the one that have more action than talk unless it’s about history.
My hubby said the movie made him really laugh and almost cry. This movie must be so powerful until can play with his emotion. Know I know why my hubby likes the movie. The story is about a dog named Marley, a naughty and trouble maker dog. It’s nothing about heroic things the dog do, nothing at all. The dog chews everything from newspaper to sofa, breaks everything from standing lamp to dishes in restaurant,… Just like our Bobby! Bobby pees on the fence until the iron’s gone, bite on the separator fence between our house and our next door Muslim neighbor so we have to replace with the new one when we moved out. In addition, Bobby also like to bring home everything that he thought valuable from the street, proudly, such as one side of sandal or shoe, plastic full of garbage, etc, until one day my dad fed up then told him to go back to where he took the sandals or shoes and took the other side.
We are also some more things in common with the movie. We have 3 kids and a depression housewife. When I watched the movie and said to my hubby, “Oh now I know why you want me to watch this movie, it’s because the wife is having depression like me”, he laughed out loud.
You know, having a dog can make you feel special because it makes you feel needed, feel loved, feel protected and feel having a good companion (it can listen carefully to our story without any argument). Do you believe that a dog can change somebody’s life? Oh yeah! It changes my mother’s. She was a dog hater. She hated the feather that flew all over the house and of course the drools. We always have a dog but she never touched it. But then few years ago, we have a dog we named him Gembul (his nickname is Bubung). He also a street dog, a puppy that my sister found. My mother loves him very much. Bubung changes my mother becoming happier, calmer, and more laughter person and…a dog lovers. Now she has 2 companions (a year ago was 3 but Snowy or Owi died), the other one is Samohay or Ohay. She baths them, shares food with them and sleeps with them.
Behind the story of Bobby, my hubby and I also have our own made-up story. Before I came to Johor, I have checked and tested to a doctor and the result was, I have some difficulties to have a baby. After I live in Johor, I also went to a sinshe (traditional medicine practitioner) who said the same thing. So at that time when we saw Bobby, it was a great idea to have him to become my companion without realizing my capability to take care a pet was very limited. We treat Bobby like our baby. We bought milk bottle for him and even toys. I remember we tried to buy him a ball but can’t find one but we saw balls inside a bowling set so we bought him one set of bowling toys. One month after we adopted Bobby, I found myself pregnant (by my hubby, of course, ehm…for those naughty thought). For us, Bobby is a gift from God that telling us to prepare ourselves because He the Almighty hear our prayers. So for my hubby and I, Bobby is considered our first “son”.
